Rodenbach Grand Cru 6

Rodenbach is a brewery and a brewing family from Roeselare, Belgium. The brewery is now owned by Palm Breweries. It is noted for its production of barrel-aged sour beers in the Flemish red style.

The Rodenbach Grand Cru is the archetypal Flanders red-brown beer. The Rodenbach Grand Cru owes its red-brown colour to the roast caramel malts. In addition to giving the beer its colour, these malts prevent the beer from oxidising. You will taste red fruits, vanilla, wood, cheese, chocolate and caramel. This beer has a mild taste with a beautiful balance between lactic acids and ascetic acids. Taste-wise, it is quite close to wine, cider and calvados.

Westvleteren the best beer in the world served here

The brewery’s three beers have acquired an international reputation for taste and quality, Westvleteren 12 being considered by some to be the best beer in the world. The beers are not brewed to normal commercial demands but are sold in small quantities weekly from the doors of the monastery itself to individual buyers on an advance-order basis.

As with all other Trappist breweries, the beer is only sold to financially support the monastery and other philanthropic causes. While the brewery is a business by definition (its purpose is to make money), it does not exist for pure profit motives, and they do no advertising. The monks have repeatedly stated that they only brew enough beer to run the monastery, and will make no more than they need to sell, regardless of demand.
